Hey everyone,
Lately I've been getting pretty fed up of hearing the same thing over and over again - about the Royal Couple. A glance at the Vancouver Sun headlines tonight shows literally 80% of the links having something to do with Kate or Will:

Royal couple honeymoon, royal couple in Calgary stampede, royal couple in Hollywood, royal couple having sex in the back of a Canadian Air Force military jet... I'm sick and tired of it! Jesus, let this royal couple just be.
"Will and Kate star in polo match!" "Will and Kate in Los Angeles!" "Will and Kate vow to return to Canada!" Seriously, is our society today so devoid of newsworthy occurrences that we have to devote headline after headline to these absolutely platitudinous people?? Aren't there deaths by the thousands from an ongoing war in the Mid-East that could use this coverage?!
What good has this couple ever shown us beside an ostentatious display of self-pampering, unproductive vacationing, and superficial wealth? Granted, I do think Kate is extremely pretty, and the ornate attire she adorns is nothing short of astounding. Will, well... he's old and balding. But is this what we value nowadays? We fawn over the colour and style of her wedding dress, the height and make of her heels, and the freaking band and cup of her bra.
Meanwhile, on the split-second news headline stream, US is deferring millions in Pakistani Military Aid, South Sudan earns its independence, massive oil spill cover-up and scandal in China, Japan braces another earthquake... Bah, but who's counting right?
And so, my question is this:
What good has ever come of the Royal Couple?
Go ahead guys, prove me wrong.

ReplyDeleteIt doesn't mean I hate this royal couple.But sometimes I just figure,there is no sensitivity of the saddest things happen out there,just like in my country itself,many people live in poverty and force them to take & eat the food from garbage.I don't know...how these people will see the luxury from this couple.

ReplyDeletethere are no newsworthy occurrences if the elite that run Canada, the world, etc. make it so that there are no newsworthy occurrences so they can keep Canadian, American, etc. citizens in the dark about what they are doing ad what is going on :/
also, our society today is a society that will riot, destroy, maim, kill, etc. over a fucking hockey game and things of that sort, so I don't know if there's really any hope for them at all

We're going down the same route as we did with Princess Diana, every single move she makes reported to the point of saturation until somebody winds up dead.

ReplyDeleteI didn't care about them before they were married, I don't give a damn now, but I do offer a simple solution to your problem. Send them to Afghanistan. It's win-win. I do love a good old fashioned rant, and a laugh, and I got both here, so why not follow lol. As for what they've done, well, they caused a four day weekend, that's enough to get them a lot of praise. Most Americans seem a lot more fond of them than we Brits, which is odd, they spent years, YEARS trying to get rid of our royal family, now they want them back! It's hilarious.

ReplyDeleteI have acquired a rather bitter attitude that is or even may be media related. No one cares to hear about the ongoing conflict and meaningless death in the Congo and Somalia. But the royals, that's news. IMO, they are nothing more than a bunch of wealthy, do nothings that wear hideous headwear.

ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of old-world charm and mystery tied up in royalty--the rest of the human population seems to unwittingly feel cowed in their presence. Remember, these are people (Will, at least) descended from people who once gained total power by convincing thousands of human beings that God had ordained the royalty to rule. Think about that in the foggy, relaxed part of your brain that handles abstracts and truths. The royals are interesting, alright.

Yeah, it's a sick society we live in. Royal people are no different from normal people, and this wedding thing wouldn't have been a big deal if people wouldn't have thought it was a big deal, thus making it a big deal...
