Hey all,
So today I read an article in the paper that really worked me up! You can read it here:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2011/07/06/bc-translink-gas-tax.html
Basically, the idiots who run this city think that it'd be such a great idea to tack on another 2 cents to pay for the Evergreen subway line from Coquitlam to Burnaby. I suppose the thinking was, "Hey since Vancouverites are already paying more for gas than any other city in North America... 2¢ won't make a difference!"
That's on top of the 15¢ that has already been priced in by TransLink. For the record, our prices are at about $1.30 per litre (about $4.90 per gallon). Yes, I can already hear you guys thinking, what the fuck?!
Alongside the HST, the bike lanes, and the fleet of other stupid decisions this government has made... I suppose it's not that outrageous is it? Thoughts are welcome!
Interesting post, I love your blog!
ReplyDeletewhoa. nice ^__^ followed you :)
ReplyDeleteI'm in Greece now. Prices here are 1.50-1.80 euro's per liter, so you don't have it so bad after all really.
ReplyDeleteIt could be worse, still annoying though.
ReplyDeleteVery good work I like way you thinking
ReplyDeleteClassic Shots
i think it's gonna rise even more :-/
ReplyDeleteI have to pay something about 6$ per litre in my country ;______;
ReplyDeletesuch a great bummer.. i use public transport in Athens, Greece where prices are high too.
ReplyDeleteIt´s going to be higher and higher, im sorry but dont expect this to change anytime soon :(
ReplyDeleteMontreal and Vancouver are always neck and neck with gas prices. It's insane.
ReplyDeleteGas is only going to get more expensive.
ReplyDeletedamn its an insane amount of money to pay
ReplyDeletegreat post, following ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty expensive. Petrol is upto £1.36 per litre here in London.
ReplyDeleteIt's getting to the point where I'm considering just walking everywhere - shame I hate walking.
Following!
crap; well you could always invest in a bicycle and utilize those bike lanes :p I'll bet the people who run the city either get gas cards or expense checks for their gas as well :/
ReplyDeleteAmazing how they always monkey around with the gas prices, as if those companies aren't making enough profits already :\
ReplyDeletePeople are doing everything for money these days...
ReplyDeleteThis is why I don't drive.
ReplyDeleteYeah this does really suck, gas prices are rising and the oil companies know that there isn't much we can do about it. We rely on transportation every to get to work or run some errands, although vehicles are becoming more gas efficient, it won't make much difference if the price of gas keeps rising.
ReplyDeleteBleh. More heightened gas prices.
ReplyDeleteLets hope it doesn't go up too much higher
ReplyDeletedat gas is killing me
ReplyDeletePrices are always going up aren't they?
ReplyDeleteWow, $1.30 per litre, dude here in the netherlands we pay about €1.60 per litre. Feels bad man.
ReplyDeleteSERIOUSLY? Fucking ridiculous, it's expensive as is.
ReplyDeleteThat's ridiculous! Fuck gas prices...
ReplyDeleteUgh. Gas prices are insane.
ReplyDeleteGas prices are getting so expensive. It's just so ridiculous.
ReplyDeletedamn, it was all outrage over here when gas hit $4 a gallon and you guys are almost up to $5? That's crazy, and now politicians are trying to find a way to tax the actual miles you drive. money, money, money.
ReplyDeleteDamn, government officials I think don't really appeal to the public, all they think of is "how can the country make more money" and thats why so many people cmplain of the the government. I live in Toronto and look what happened in the G20. Liked your blog and I followed
ReplyDeleteWow, that is way too expensive.
ReplyDeletehttp://thebasementx.blogspot.com/
gas prices are already so high...damn
ReplyDeletegas needs to run out so it'll stop strangling us financially!
ReplyDeleteThat is messed up.
ReplyDeleteIn portugal we pay 1,6 euros per liter. Thats 2,27 dollars.
ReplyDeleteYou're pretty lucky in my opinion.
Wow, that's pretty ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteThat's just redonk. I don't get how they can tax things that are already astronomical.
ReplyDeleteThose thieves!
ReplyDeletewhere all the electrical cars have gone?
ReplyDeletethanks for the info +followed
ReplyDeleteIt's already expensive enough
ReplyDeleteIf that happened I would just have to walk to work I guess its not to far from here
ReplyDeleteomg I read about that too... really frustrating.
ReplyDeletei thought it was bad here in the US!
ReplyDeleteThat fucking sucks. Although I do like bike lanes in the city I live in. But they didn't add a tax to gas to put them in.
ReplyDeleteThey should only make cars which consist of energy. Saves money and better for all of us
ReplyDeletefollowed, keep it up! ^-^
ReplyDeleteThings are tough everywhere.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it depends on where the tax money is going. Traditionally, gas taxes are supposed to go to maintaining roads. If those costs go up, then I can't protest raising taxes to the level to pay for them, as long as that's the only place that money is going.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, if gas has gone up, say, 25% in the last year, then that's 25% more gas tax that's being collected as well. And then they say they need more? I call bullshit.
The government will just continue to sneak in NEW taxes. They get up used to it. 2 steps forward, 1 step back. Then we are like YAYYY look it went down. 2 steps forward one step back.
